Beechgrove Care Home was delighted to take part in the Lanark Lanimers Procession for the very first time on Thursday 11th June, marking a proud and memorable moment for our residents, families, friends and staff.

The Lanark Lanimers is one of our town’s most treasured traditions, with roots dating back to Lanark’s history as a Royal Burgh. Today, the celebration brings the community together each June for a week of events, with Lanimer Day known for its colourful procession, decorated entries, music, pageantry and the crowning of the Lanimer Queen. It remains a much-loved occasion in the local calendar and an important part of Lanark’s cultural heritage.

This year was especially meaningful for Beechgrove, as we were proud to become the first care home to take part in the procession. Despite the bad weather, spirits remained high and the day was a wonderful celebration of community, creativity and togetherness.

A Treasured Shared Endeavour

After lots of preparation, our dedicated staff, residents, visitors, families and friends came together to help bring our Lanimer entry to life. During arts and crafts activities, residents enjoyed creating beautiful flowers from tissue paper, felt and pipe cleaners, which were then used to decorate our minibus. The finished result was bright, joyful and full of personality, reflecting the hard work and imagination of everyone involved.

There was a real sense of excitement in the home as the procession approached. Residents and staff dressed in flowers and vibrant colours from head to toe, ready to represent Beechgrove with pride. The sense of camaraderie, anticipation and teamwork was clear to see, and it made our first Lanimer experience even more special.

We were absolutely thrilled to be awarded 2nd prize in the Newcomers category, as well as 2nd place for Best Decorated Window. These achievements mean so much to everyone at Beechgrove and are a wonderful recognition of the time, care and creativity that went into the project.

Later in the week, our residents also enjoyed a very special afternoon when Lanimer Queen Ayda, her court and the Crowning Lady visited Beechgrove Care Home. It was a lovely opportunity to celebrate this cherished community tradition, share stories and enjoy time together. We would like to say a heartfelt thank you to the Lanimer Queen and her court for taking the time to visit us and for bringing so many smiles to our residents.

Staying Connected To Our Community

Community and cultural events play an important role in life at Beechgrove. For people living in care homes, opportunities like this help build a sense of belonging, purpose and connection. Taking part in local traditions allows residents to remain involved in the community around them, while also creating new memories, encouraging creativity and bringing people together across generations.

We would like to say a very special thank you to everyone who got involved for all the support, enthusiasm and hard work that made this amazing project possible. We are also incredibly grateful to Lanark Beds and Mattresses Ltd for their generous support, and to Lanark Golf Club for kindly loaning us golf umbrellas on the day.

Beechgrove Care Home’s first Lanark Lanimers was a real success, and we are so proud of everyone who helped make it such a wonderful experience. It was a day filled with colour, laughter, teamwork and community spirit, and one that will be remembered fondly by us all.
